Funded through a Community Stormwater Solutions Grant from the District Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE), high school students in our Studio DC program learned to design sustainable solutions to address stormwater issues based on project sites in their neighborhoods. Students learned about green infrastructure, sustainable design, and community engagement from professionals and industry experts. By the end of the program, students developed two landscape plans featuring stormwater solutions like bioretention, green roofs, rain gardens, habitat gardens, and site amenities, including a porous courtyard and playground structures inspired by the natural elements found in the Chesapeake Bay. The students presented their final projects at the National Building Museum to an audience of over 100 people.
